It’s interesting to see President Lula receiving the coordination of ASL (Free Software.Org Association) at Planalto to personally deliver the invitation to FISL 9.0. The event takes place April 17-19 in Porto Alegre and is considered Latin America’s largest free software forum.
This movement makes sense considering the government was already showing interest in migrating to free software in public administration. SERPRO and Caixa Econômica already had projects in this direction, aiming to reduce licensing costs and develop more technological independence. For the Brazilian free software movement, having presidential recognition is an important milestone that can accelerate adoption of these technologies in the public sector.
